Many have tried, but few have succeeded to become perfect with time management. There will always be curveballs thrown into the mix of your project, and it’s your job to make sure that despite the changes, you have solutions to handle them without compromising the quality of your task.


Develop a toolbox, if you will, of solutions ready for anything that may come your way. One idea for your toolbox is to make good use of the vast array of time management software to streamline workflow and keep everybody updated on the changes and progress of your work.


3. Form relationships with your stakeholders


While managing your team is extremely important, keeping the big picture in mind is also crucial to your success as a project manager. To this end, you must develop relationships with your stakeholders to ensure effective communication and support. Learn to speak to them in their lingo, which will be different than the way you speak to your team. Be diligent about understanding their expectations, and don’t be afraid to ask for clarification to ensure all expectations are understood. Be transparent and straightforward with them, informing them of changes in plans as necessary, but also your plan to rectify any changes or problems that arise.


4. Empower your team


When problems arise, you would expect your team members to bring them to you to find a solution. And while you should be aware of those problems, you should encourage your team to solve their own problems and take charge for providing solutions whenever possible and appropriate. This will make your job simpler while strengthening your relationships and trust with your team.


5. Be grateful


One of the most crucial, yet often overlooked, aspects of being a good project manager is showing gratitude to your team. People’s jobs are too often long, thankless, and stressful as they try hard to make their deadlines. Showing appreciation to your team will make them feel important and help them see that their work matters. This not only strengthens your team as a whole, but improves productivity and the overall atmosphere in the work environment.
